Highlights May 23-27th

 Students have been doing great work of their stories about a caterpillar!! They did some very cute art for their title page, and have been working hard writing their stories using descriptive words.  In math, students had their last week of switching classes between Grade 1s and 2s! They will now be back together as a class until the end of the year. Students have done lots of practice around subtraction!  Students have been doing a wonderful job of oral presentations and have created some more amazing dioramas!!  In social studies, students have been exploring the maritimes and discovering what animals live there. Did you know a blue whale weighs about as much as 33 elephants!?  In P.E, students played giant badminton (very large racket a birdie) as well as giant volleyball. Highlights May 16th - 19th!

 This week in science, students built their own games using magnets and the maker space! Students started by brainstorming their designs in pairs, then building and sharing their games with their peers!  In P.E, students have been practicing skills in volleyball this week! We explored bumping, setting, and striking using beach volleyballs.  Students have been doing such amazing work with their oral presentations this week!! Below are some of the stunning dioramas students created of their favourite insect!  In art, students created beautiful pieces based on acadian and landscapes places! Students always ask when they can bring them home to show their families; they will come home very soon!!  In writing, students have started their second story writing on 'La chenille qui fait des trous' (The Very Hungry Caterpillar). Students are doing a great job adding details and descriptive language to their work. 

Highlights May 9-13

 We've had lots of fun this week in science continuing to experiment with magnets! We explored how magnets have poles, and how the size of a magnet does not necessarily correlate to its strength.  In social studies, we have been looking at symbols of maritimes and observed lighthouses and lobster fishing! Students have started an art project of a maritime scene that they are excited to share!  In FLA, students have been working on writing using picture prompts, and sharing their writing with others. Students have given feedback to each-other to help improve their work!  In math, students have been continuing to practice subtraction. They brought home some of the practice questions we did this week to celebrate with their families!  In P.E, we have started dribbling, striking, and other object manipulation. Highlights May 2nd- 6th

 We had a wonderful time during our coulee visit on Monday!! Students enjoyed exploring nature and creating beautiful land art. Students also created an amazing class piece that everyone collaborated on!  In science, students explore magnetism with various stations of different tasks. They loved experimenting and documenting their process!  In social studies, we started studying Atlantic provinces and Acadia! Students explored the landscape and located provinces on google maps.  In math, students have been doing number talks to explain their mathematical thinking strategies. They continue to explore various strategies for addition and subtraction.  In P.E, we have started floor hockey! Students are having lots of fun and are enjoying the challenge of working as a team.
