Highlights of the week!

This week we had a wonderful opportunity to visit with an author, Lois Brandt, who wrote the book "Maddi's Fridge", who offers to meet with classes who are supporting families in need by holding a food bank drive. She told the students about her experiences as a writer, gave examples of how she uses her experiences and turns them into made up stories, and answered our questions about her work. It was a very rich experiences for all of our grade one/two friends. In addition to meeting with us, she also gave each student a signed book mark with a recipe on the back which we have laminated and sent home with your child. Please ask you student about this visit and feel free to follow up by listening to the read aloud here or visiting her website.

In math we have been practicing sorting using different attributes like colour, shape, size, etc! It has been lots of hands-on fun! We are continuing to work on counting and identifying all numbers to 100! 

In writing, we worked on the symbol of the poppy and what it means. We also worked on writing about our weekend.

In PE, we are working on team games in the gym! 

In health we have been working on a balanced plate and talking about ratios of the canada's food guide. 

In FLA we have been working on speaking in french, and we filmed a remembrance day video of our poem in french.

Looking ahead...
-Next week is remembrance day on Thursday, and PD Day on Friday so it will be a short week! 
-Thank you for all your donations to the food bank, we will continue collecting donations until Nov. 12!

Highlights from January 24-28

This week we had a virtual workshop from artist Sabine Lecorre-Moore who taught us how to paint images from Alberta's Boreal Forest! Students did amazing work and enjoyed speaking to Sabine about their techniques and practicing their French skills!  In math, Grades 2s practice addition using base-ten blocks! Grades 1s practiced using number-lines!  In FLA, students continued working on their 'Nicki et les animaux' stories!  In science, we talked about animal adaptations of arctic animals. He then did a science experiment with blubber and seeing how it can keep a seal warm in the arctic water!

Highlights from this week!

 This week in art, we completed our beautiful pieces on leaf patterns!  In math, we look at number and practiced counting in various ways to 50. We also played a fun sorting and ordering game with our leaves looking at how we can sort them from smallest to biggest, by shape, and colour!  In science, we talked about ants and practiced labeling the parts of the insect!  This week in french, we wrote about what we are thankful for and used our patterning skills to create a beautiful journal entry.  In social studies,  we talked about rural communities and added to our mural to contrast urban vs. rural!  Looking ahead.... October 13th is picture day! Bring your best smiles!  Next Friday, October 15th, we are excited to go on a trip to the coulee! Be sure to dress warm that day and be ready for a great day in nature.

Highlights May 9-13

 We've had lots of fun this week in science continuing to experiment with magnets! We explored how magnets have poles, and how the size of a magnet does not necessarily correlate to its strength.  In social studies, we have been looking at symbols of maritimes and observed lighthouses and lobster fishing! Students have started an art project of a maritime scene that they are excited to share!  In FLA, students have been working on writing using picture prompts, and sharing their writing with others. Students have given feedback to each-other to help improve their work!  In math, students have been continuing to practice subtraction. They brought home some of the practice questions we did this week to celebrate with their families!  In P.E, we have started dribbling, striking, and other object manipulation.
